1. Military Youth on the Move - Moving can be really exciting, but it can also be pretty hard especially for children of military families. Are they worried about losing old friends? Dreading starting over at a new school? Wondering what they'll ever find to do at the new location? If so, then they are not alone. Have them check out the Military Youth on the Move web site. The site was designed with the military youth on the mind, covering topics specifically for military youth, like dealing with deployment and moving to a new location, but also everyday youth topics, like dealing with divorce, getting enough exercise, and making money! The site has information for elementary, middle school, and high school youth. |
2. New law gives spouses more rights during moves: A new law giving military spouses the same rights enjoyed by service members to pick their state of legal residence was signed by President Barack Obama on Nov. 11. In a statement, Obama said Military Spouses Residency Relief Act “is an important means of maintaining the morale and readiness of our armed forces and significantly enhances the ability of our military to effectively recruit and retain these highly valued service personnel.”
The new law affects issues ranging from driver’s licenses and vehicle registration to voting rights, property ownership and taxation. Read what the new law does and the rest of the story on AirForceTimes.com

Moving with Children
By the Beale AFB Airman & Family Readiness Center Relocation Staff
The average military family moves at least twice as often as the average American family. Military parents cannot help but wonder what effects the frequent moves will have on their children. The active duty parent may feel guilty for uprooting the family for a new assignment.

| Parents take heart! Studies of military children have shown that because of the varied environments and situations in which they are placed, they learn to be adaptable and flexible. They learn skills to cope and develop self-confidence and strong identity. So parents, your children will be gaining a lot from being part of a military family that is on the move. |
Helping your children through the PCS process is a matter of making the move happen rather than letting it happen. Your attitude and level of involvement with the children before, during and after the move will largely determine their reactions to the uprooting that a move requires.
Your peace of mind will be assisted considerably by your children if they are not reacting violently against the move. After all, you do need some peace during this time of disruption.
The age of your children can make a big difference in the way they respond to a move. We will address this issue by grouping children in the following categories: infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, elementary school ages, and teens. Read the rest of the article...
